If you’re visiting this section of the Haiti Response Coalition website, you must be wondering – “How can I get involved in this effort?” Read on for some suggestions!
First and foremost, although it may not be the most creative or glamorous way to get involved, making a financial contribution to any one of the Haiti Response Coalition member organizations is the best way to directly support immediate humanitarian relief: food, water, medicine, shelter. Your contribution, for example, could help enable Coalition member organizations purchase needed food from a local market in Haiti, which not only helps feed those who are hungry but also helps re-invest in the Haitian people.
Help grow Haiti Response Coalition’s network of supporters. Spread the word about HRC by sharing a link to this website with friends, family and co-workers. Join the Haiti Response Coalition’s Facebook Group, and invite all of your friends to join! Visit our website and facebook group often to stay informed and connected!
Coordinate a collection of urgently needed items – the types of things that are not readily available and/or are in short supply on the ground in Haiti. NOTE: Shipping items can be costly; however, if a number of individuals and/or small groups collaborate to collect and ship items, perhaps there would be an opportunity for cost-sharing. If you plan to coordinate a collection of items, please contact Sarah Cool at coolsarahs@gmail.com to try to consolidate your efforts with others to stretch resource-sharing as much as possible!

While volunteer opportunities are limited, if you have a deep desire to serve with and learn from the people of Haiti, consider completing one of the Coalition member organization’s online volunteer forms, such as the Quixote Center or Beyond Borders. Some points about volunteering in Haiti to consider seriously include (1) previous experience in Haiti (2) previous experience in disaster relief (3) pertinent language and/or other specific skill (4) realistic time commitment you are able to make (5) ability to be flexible and live simply (6) ability to fund your travel and related expenses.
